Welcome to philipdodd.com, the website of Philip Dodd, publisher, editor and author.

After a career in mainstream book publishing, Philip has developed a reputation as a writer and editor working with high-profile clients in entertainment and popular culture, and as an author in his own right.

This Autumn sees the publication by Random House of The Reverend Guppy’s Aquarium, which marks Philip’s move into the realm of general non-fiction. The book is an idiosyncratic journey to discover the lives, times and places of twenty people whose names have been immortalised as musical instruments, foodstuffs… or fish. (The Financial Times: “Wry, quirky. It is the storytelling and the author’s obvious affection for his subject that give a heart to this book.”)

As an editor and amanuensis, Philip’s latest book is Genesis: Chapter & Verse, the band’s autobiography, which was created by Philip from interviews he conducted with the group and their entourage in 2005 and 2006 – just as he did with the Rolling Stones for 2003’s According To The Rolling Stones. He also collaborated with long-time client Nick Mason, the Floyd’s drummer, on his memoir Inside Out: A Personal History Of Pink Floyd.

Philip has also written The Book Of Rock, ‘a gallery of saints, sinners, martyrs and magicians’, and – with Ben Donald – The Book Of Cities, “a book to fire the imagination of even the most committed armchair traveller” (Observer).
